Pink grasshopper's color is due to erythrism a unique and little known genetic mutation triggered by a recessive gene much like to that which influences albino animals. This specific mutation leads to 1 of 2 things happening or possibly a mixture of the two; a decrease or perhaps scarcity of the regular pigment and/or the increased output of some other pigments, in this situation red which leads to pink morphs. Though it was initially found out in 1887 in a katydid species, it is very uncommon to see these types of pink morphs.
